CoLab Nashville: Interview with Ryan Weaver

After becoming immersed in Symfony, which is a programming language, Weaver used that knowledge to take him in a direction where Symfony was used exclusively. Interested in opening a branch in the United States, KnpLabs took Ryan’s suggestion of Nashville being its base. He and his fiancée LeAnna now run the U.S. operations here in Music City.
Weaver was interested in finding a workspace away from home and CoLab really sparked his interest. “I wanted a place where there were people around outside my house,” said Weaver. “So I was already looking for somewhere like this.”
CoLab: How did you hear about CoLab?
Ryan Weaver: There was an article that ran in the Tennesseean about 15 months ago. A friend of mine Tweeted it and knew it was exactly the thing I had been waiting for.
CL: How long have you been here at CoLab?
RW: I’ve been here since April or March of last year. I was renting a desk for about a year before moving into the office, which is always what I wanted. I’ve seen it grow a lot in that time. By the time I got an actual office here I was lucky to get in on the first floor. I saw Kailey turn an ugly, abandoned building into this great space all in under a year.
CL: Do you like working downtown?
RW: I live downtown and my fiancée lives downtown and we both work downtown, so this is perfect. I walk to and from work and walk and meet people for lunch. Being downtown is absolutely the perfect spot. I’m always in the center, too. Even if I need to drive somewhere to meet someone, it’s only a ten minute drive at the most to get anywhere. As far as being somebody who needs face time with people, it makes the most sense to be centrally located.
CL: What makes being involved with CoLab so great?
RW: It’s way easier to concentrate in this space versus being at home. It’s great to be around all these people. It’s also very nice to have a space that’s evolving. Every little bit of the office space is constantly changing and there’s always something else happening. I know that Kailey wants to see it grow and make it be a comfortable, trendy space. It’s good to be a part of a workspace that is also living.
