CoLab Nashville Member Spotlight: Taylor Redden of Consolo Services Group
Software developer enjoys camaraderie among other techies
Nearly 10 years ago, Taylor Redden watched as his grandfather’s health slowly declined after a broken hip.
It’s a sad memory, but Taylor remembers one aspect of it with a smile: His family was able to provide in-house hospice care for his Papaw, allowing them to spend his last few months with them at home.
Taylor, now 29, develops software for Consolo Services Group, a company that builds software for hospice care facilities and is a full-time coworker on the third floor of CoLab Nashville. He’s one of our newest members.
“It’s not a glamorous job, but ever since my Papaw passed and we had hospice care in our house, I have a soft place in my heart for it,” Taylor says. “We got to focus on being with him, and if we didn’t have hospice care, that wouldn’t have happened.”
Tell us about yourself and the company you work for.
I work for Consolo Services, and we create web-based software for hospices. It includes a lot of clinical charting, claims and billing. I’m a software developer, and at Consolo Services, we do all the database work and all of the front-end web work.
How long have you worked at Consolo Services Group?
I’ve been with Consolo for three and a half years now. Before that, I was doing bank software in Crossville.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
The best part about it is my ability to work with new web technologies. Our bosses give us free range to pick the best tool for the job, so we’re able to work with some pretty cool stuff. I also enjoy being able to work remotely — I can work where I have a computer and Internet connection.
Where were you before you started working at CoLab?
I was wherever — at home, at coffee shops…
How did you hear about CoLab?
I don’t know, honestly. I’ve always been interested in coworking. I like the feel of coworking places. Just seeing people up moving around, talking on the phones and getting stuff done … It motivates you to get off Facebook and Reddit and get stuff done.
How long have you been at CoLab?
This is my second stint here. The first time I was here a few days a week about a year and a half ago. This second stint, I’ve been here about three months.
What’s your favorite part about working downtown?
The Arcade because of all the food choices. I love that. And being able to go to the bars here after work.
What makes being involved with CoLab so great?
I like being able to go somewhere else other than my condo. I like having a place to go so that I don’t go stir-crazy. I also like being able to interact with people, especially the techies around here. because I don’t get to nerd out as much as I’d like to. And ping-pong. I like ping-pong a lot.
